Welcome to our “Have you met?” series, where we catch up with members of our team through an informal Q&A.
In this edition, we spoke with Elaine Hayes (Mortgages and Equity Release Adviser), from our Rickinghall (Diss) office, about an array of topics. These included her reasons for becoming an adviser and her love of Marmite.
Read the short Q&A session below to find out more about Elaine.
Mortgages and Equity Release Adviser, Elaine Hayes, has been with Lucas Fettes since 2020, joining as part of Lucas Fettes’ acquisition of Andrew Dickson Limited. Elaine qualified to advise clients on mortgages and equity release in 2016, having been part of the administration team at Andrew Dickson Limited since 1998.
What was the reasoning behind your choice to become a Mortgage and Equity Release Adviser?
I’ve always enjoyed helping people and, after being a Financial Administrator for many years, decided the time was right to take some more exams and become an adviser. Helping people to purchase their new home, or helping people in later life secure a better retirement for themselves, gives me a lot of pleasure.
What are the key benefits of seeking advice when considering a mortgage or equity release?
There’s so many products on the market to choose from and it isn’t a case of one size fits all. Seeking advice from a specialist, and explaining what your aims and requirements are, is so important to finding the most suitable product to suit your individual needs.
How do you think our Equity Release Council membership benefits clients?
It shows that we take our role seriously and demonstrates that we adhere to the highest standards. It also highlights that we look to provide the most appropriate advice to our clients, based on their best interests.
How have you found integrating into the Lucas Fettes team over the last year or so?
It’s been challenging, as we’ve been in lockdown for most of that time. I’ve spoken to most of my new colleagues, but there are still many to meet face to face – which I hope to be able to do this year.
What are you passionate about?
I love baking and decorating cakes – my hedgehog cake was my best creation to date, I also love gardening and listening to music.
Tell us a fact few people know about you
I’ve just started learning British Sign Language.
Do you have any pets?
No pets currently; however, I love to encourage birds, hedgehogs, frogs and toads into my garden.
What is your favourite cuisine?
That’s a difficult question, as I love most foods. If I had to choose just one, it would be Italian.
Marmite – love it or hate it?
I love it.
What have you done that you would recommend to others?
Challenge yourself – I’ve completed the Race for Life a couple of times, but this year I’m hoping to complete the Macmillan Deben Vale 26 mile Mighty Hike – which not only challenges me, but also raises money for a great cause.
What motivates you?
I love helping people, whether that’s working with clients to meet their objectives or helping friends and family. Seeing people happy, and knowing I’ve helped make it possible, encourages me to keep trying.
If you had to lock something away, never to return, what would it be?
